Dont Make Me Blush

Hello blog world, I hope everyone is doing well.

I am not sure if anyone knows, but I am currently in my sophomore year at college so i am usually busy (scratch that ALWAYS busy). But! nothing diminishes stress quicker than some sort of creative outlet, so doing an illustration or 2 might do me some good.

My new illustration is another fictional character from the deep dark decedent and somewhat tantalizing part of my brain (yes i just refereed to brain as decedent and tantalizing I'm hungry).

I am also feeling pretty cheerful lately so expect lots of COLOR in the next few posts.

Dont call It a comeback!

Hello Blog world, i have been extremely busy with school (i changed majors), I'm sure everyone knows how that goes lol. But i am back and ready to resume my proper place as a new and relatively unknown illustrative blogger!

Thank you for all the support i received in the past from followers and bloggers and I hope to gather more viewers of my work this year.

I have done this new illustration why is from an ad i have saved to my desktop, being that I was obsessed with the colors in it, I figured I had to illustrate it eventually so hope you all enjoy.

I would love to write a longer and more detailed post but i don't have time too at the moment, However, I still wanted to share this drawing with you all.

Rebel with a cause is the most adequate way i could describe J. Sabatino's fall 2009 mens collection.When it comes to menswear, designer's can easily come off as habitual and routine so it's always a treat when a designer can break through the almost robotic ingrained look that many feel (is mens fashion) and give us something stylish functional and exclusive.

With wacky vintage glasses and unconventional pairings like sweat pants with narrow modern blazers , I depict the J.Sabatino man as a mundane collegiate nerd who will eventually evolve into a rock star.

My most recent illustration is of the very fashionable writer and owner of www.mrjuancocco.blogspot.com, a blog which i respect for several reasons, one in particular being his rather robust looks, and take on style in general.

When it comes to this blog i find that its key component is its masculine unkempt quality,a quality which really seems to spark my interest and the interest of many other male fashion seekers. Despite the notion that fashion is completely subjective...I can honestly say its a nice break from the more androgynous blogs that are cluttering the blogsphere.

Frozen envy

Thank god its Friday has never sounded better, after a strenuous week that seemed like it took decades, I'm ecstatic to finally be able to have some fun.(lets hope this doesn't mock last weekend).

I have finished a new drawing and i was very adamant about doing an illustration with predominantly cool colors, so i am very content with the way this has turned out.(i promise I'm not going through a Picasso blue period) lol.

Not such a Style Rookie?

This illustration is of Extraordinary Pre-teen fashion blogger Tavi. (13 years young to be exact), her Blog The Style Rookie has completely amazed me and everyone else who has seen it. She writes as if she were a 35 year old fashion insider who has been at this for years but in all actuality she is just full of fashion knowledge!A lover of books as well, she seems to be well informed on more then just style, but it's her adept writing ability and keen sense of style that truly intrigues me. I spent what seemed like hours contemplating if her blog was a fake or if she was a fashion alien sent to earth to make older individuals feel insufficient and ill informed, but i have come to the practical conclusion that this girl simply Gets Fashion... case closed.

Tavi got her first taste of professional journalism in September, 2009 when she covered New York Fashion Week(True Story) for ThePop.com⁵ website.

I find myself excited and anxious to see what this girl does next!

Its finally Sunday... which means schoolwork, exercise and cleaning everything to prepare for the week ahead. I hope everyone had an amazing weekend because i certainly didn't, But I'm not up for putting a dark cloud over someones mood so i will spare you the drab details of what took place Saturday, (I will however give you a hint , Absolutely Nothing Fun At All!)lol.

Ideas, and a designer pen..

Truth-i enjoy all aspects of fashion, from: designing,writing,styling,blogging,broadcasting and art, the list would go on and on if it wasn't 11:34 pm,but you get the idea.

Above are two sketches i did.
I have been dreaming of a collection with shoulder pads on unconventional clothing articles such as T-shirts and sweaters, so i decided to illustrate two outfits.

It's my personal promise to make all my fashion design sketches real in the near future but for now 2 dimensional fashion designs will have to do.haha

The lovely and extremely stylish blogger of Karla's closet, has really inspired me recently. I think her blog is one of my favorites if not my very favorite of the moment. Her style is fantastic and she puts together things that you normally wouldn't think to combine, and they always look so damn good! i must give it to the girl in my opinion she is a style genius(who i hope lands some big styling jobs asap).
While scrolling through her blog i fell in love with an outfit she picked out, it was an almost peach blazer(her accent) over a grey tank and skirt, i was instantly inspired and decided to draw her, so here is the sketch hope you all like it!

Clean Volume

OK, so i am completely aware that the shows i have posted recently all have many characteristics in common, but what can i say! I'm the type of guy who thinks a blazer is the key component to every man's wardrobe,the type of man who would much rather be seen sporting a Burberry trench with simple piping then an dramatic show piece from say (Alexander McQueen),I simply prefer a more lax style,but at least I'm consistent lol, so bare with me i swear the broad eclecticism is well on its way.

Designer Jsen Wintle’s spring 2010 collection is a favorite of mine,using immaculate tailoring, and subtle pops of pastel colors like pink and pale blue, i find that it sets a very clean simple mood. Contrasting the very basic color pallet there are many hidden construction aspects to this line that create a fresh and modern silhouette. Jsen's vision for this line was simple and masculine but with couture finishing techniques, ( see, i told you the eclecticism was on its way!).

I personally love this collection, i think its designed for the modern elitist, but still contains many traditional elements, i almost get a feel of old historic sophistication.
I'm keen on clothing that looks effortless but still manages to get the point across,you don't need a bold statement piece to be noticed in fashion, style should be apparent because true luxury is simple, we should all leave the "bling bling" for flava flav lol.

My new illustration is of Blogger, model and New acquaintance Andrea Ravieli, Andrea is a blogger i stumbled upon a while back and ever since i have been an avid reader of his addictive lifestyle and style blog.Titled "The Blog" it instantly gives you the impression that you wont regret subscribing, and personally i couldn't see how one could. Andrea does frequent posts about fashion, but with his own personal opinion's, stories and taste, I can greatly appreciate a blog that not only delivers facts, but can also give us the writers opinion, after all that is why we go to so many blogs right? to see fashion through others eyes.

With a great eye for beauty and style and a kind charming personality, Andrea is quickly becoming a very influential name on the blog scene.
I think this blog is truly one of the better fashion blogs done by a male,(including mine of course) so i suggest everyone take a look!

Eyes Like Earth

My newest illustration,(eyes like earth),has a bit of meaning behind it. A very good friend of mine gave me an issue of vogue a while back and inside the issue i happened to find my favorite designer , who inspires me in so many ways, so i decided to do an illustration based on the cover of that issue of vogue.

As you can see from my earlier post's i went in a different direction with my newest illustration and opted for a darker more dramatic look.
Music plays a large role in anything artistic and creative for me so while working on this piece i listened to a song by The Scene aesthetic named (boats and birds)which put me in a very dark, cynical mood. My series is coming to an end so I hope you enjoy the illustration's!

Thom Brown Spring 2010

Once again going anti-trend, Thom brown has delivered a captivating show only a true idealist can produce.With unique silhouettes ,detailed prints and bold lining, this collection almost seems to pop out at us.

The designer drew inspiration from “mermaids in war paint” in an attempt to take his label to the next level, i for one think this show was intriguing, I find that innovation during a recession is a way to show your passionate about what you attribute to fashion, and that you wont sway from your ideas.Thom Brown is a "Rebel" and accolade's must be given.

One of the main line components I'm obsessing over is layering options, this show was stocked full of blazers, button downs, vests, cropped trouser and for those daring individuals, skirts.
My favorite piece's from the entire collection were a pair of cropped tweed shorts and a fitted detailed leather blazer.

Bold colors contrasting lining and absolute creativity are apparently essential elements to a Amazing show!

Marc By Marc Jacobs Spring 2010

Marc Jacobs spring collection for his less expensive brand Marc by Marc Jacobs can be defined as both traditional and eye catching.
I always look to this line by Marc to be a laid back collection with non-stop neutrals and
subtle luxury fabrics, but this year he opted for a brighter more optimistic show.This collection is one of my favorites so far, the clothes have an 80's style about them, due to the volume in the tops, the chunky high tops and shorts that only a runner could pull off.

Designers seem to be doing fall trends for spring this year and i find this very interesting, last season the familiar gingham print filled the spring runways and department stores, but this year be expecting tartan for fall winter and early spring.

I find that this collection is rather youthful but in a quirky sense, the eccentric mixing of prints and typically clashing colors paired really enables us up to look modern and fresh.

Pelayo Diaz Zapico is a writer model and stylist and he has a blog named Kate loves me which i have been reading since i can remember!

One of the things i love about his blog is that it is very personal but it doesn't manage to get boring or lack luster, i find it very entertaining and appealing to any lifestyle junkies like myself (its true).

He has earned great attention due to his amazing style, and level head-ness he basically seems like the guy next door! But in extremely Stylish attire and a badass haircut.He attends Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London as well which is an amazing art school I only see him becoming more and more successful!

New illustrations And a Fresh new Face

I have recently added two new illustrations to my series, and I'm loving them! The lowest one is not of any person in particular, although after i finished it i was surprised to see that it did look a lot like someone i know lol.(not saying any names),however the top picture is of a friend of mine named (James c. Holton), James recently signed with New york Model Management and says he is loving it, i decided to ask him a few questions after finishing up my illustration which is of the man himself.

MI: Hey man, hope all is well so lets get started...

James: Everything is amazing, and sure ready when you are.

MI: OK where are you originally from?

James: I am originally from Haslett Michigan

MI: Nice, So one thing i love about modeling is the exposure to different designer's, so who would you say your favorite designer is, and why?

James: Right now I'm really into Gucci, because the clothes fit amazing on a slimmer body, and they have this really cool laid back feeling about them even though they are still classy and sophisticated.

MI: okay,he is a favorite of mine as well, so since being a part of New york Model management how have things changed in your life? that's a amazing agency!

James: A lot has changed! for one , I have left Michigan and moved to new york city to live and pursue modeling, The city has such a cool energy that you wont find anywhere else, and I'm loving that, also i have made a lot of friends through the agency. I'm sure a lot more will change down the road and hopefully things change for the best.

MI: Well that sounds great, one of the thing about the fashion industry i have always disliked is the fact that its so competitive, its good to see that friendships are possible in such a dog eat dog industry.

James: yeah man, its more girls that don't like each other, guys tend to make a lot of friends through modeling.

MI: when I'm sketching or even writing, i occasionally channel other artist of writers, do you have any models you channel or that inspire you?

James: yeah of course haha, Garrett Neff just because his of his dedication to staying healthy and in shape,and Ashton kutcher because he was able to pursue his dream of acting, through modeling and i hope to do that as well.

MI: I agree, and i think its great that you have another career you would like to pursue, modeling can open so many doors to other careers in the entertainment industry. With drive, i don't doubt you will end up where you want to be as an actor.

James: yeah, i just keep on working and educating myself as i go, waiting for my BIG break, haha

MI: that's how it works, well i figure that's enough airing of your business and likes and dislikes for now haha, but i will say,i think you have a great look man and I'm sure i will be seeing more of you.

MI: Oh! one last question, whats your favorite blog!(stern face)

James: I'm sure it will be MR.insomniac once i start reading more fashion blogs.

MI: Nice safe answer!

“Versus”

The above looks are from Shipley & Halmos Spring 2010 show, the designers pulled ideas from a short film which i think was a great idea, although the designers usually make more artistic clothing this season they seem to be moving more towards a practical collection with wearable pieces. Known for their clean lines and amazing tailoring they have kept true to their skill and given us a very clean crisp collection but with a more modern young silhouette.

I have noticed a trend for 2010 shows suggesting that practicality is apparently the new black, so I'm suggesting take minimal steps with style for spring 2010 (I'm guessing due to that recession thing lol).

the 2nd 6th and 7th looks are my personal favorite's

2nd Look: I cant get over how awesome leather for spring is and the jacket looks well made and as you can see minimal detailing which is a plus for me.

6th Look: I'm growing tired of that hipster look everyone is trying to pull off (thanks a lot target for selling fedoras and vests!), but this version of it is taking a step forward instead of into the crowd, i love that the pants are loose and the jacket is as well,its a nice break from crotch hugging skinny jeans that only a saved by the bell character could love(sorry Mario).

7th Look: Obviously the color here is sick! and its not every year that we see a burnt orange tone for spring. I think long sleeves with shorts can either go extremely wrong and tacky or Very right , S&H got it right.

Ill be saving up for that leather jacket and those burnt orange shorts!

Robert Geller Does it again!

Ok, so once again Robert Geller has produced an amazing show, this season he seems to be doing a lot of neutrals with bright hues like this blue coat to the far bottom right.
this collection pulled inspiration from artist Michael Sowa and the detailing of the clothing is great!(I'm loving the use of leather for spring its genius haha).

Robert Geller has always been one of my favorite designers, not only because of his stylish designs but because every piece he makes no matter how out there or complicated it my be is still somewhat wearable.The looks above are my favorites from the show especially the first one, its simple yet complicated which happens to be what i tend to look for with this designer.

Although i think this collection was for the most part perfect, i must say some of the looks are a bit reminiscent of his last season shows.. just with different tones and a wider range of shapes.The colors however are exceptional, i particularly love neutral tones, but the hints of electric blue and mustard really bring the collection to life.

i don't see anything but promise in Robert's future he is truly creating amazing work...that hopefully i will be able to afford very soon haha.

He Wore Geometry on his face

This is my first fashion illustration, i did have several Muse's for this picture but overall the man in the picture is just a visual representation of my ideal"cool guy" aside from the mustache that is..I didn't use too many medias for this its basically some graphic work some water color ink and pencil.
